The “Voice of Music” is the only Israeli radio station which broadcasts exclusively art music. art music 18 hours a day, from 6 A.M. till midnight. Our programs present mainly the so-called “Classical” music, joined by varied aspects of contemporary music – local and general – early music, world music, jazz, early recordings and the latest discs and all other musics good enough to pass our threshold.

The “Voice of Music” started on 1st, May 1983 as an F.M. station broadcasting

Music transmissions started here with the inauguration of the Palestine Broadcasting System in 1936. With the addition of a second wavelength classical music could be heard on channel A, 4-6 hours daily. art music 18 hours a day, from 6 A.M. till midnight. Our programs present mainly the so-called “Classical” music, joined by varied aspects of contemporary music – local and general – early music, world music, jazz, early recordings and the latest discs and all other musics good enough to pass our threshold.

Discs take up about 70% of our air time. The rest is filled with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra – I.B.A. and other local orchestras; chamber groups and individual artists; events like the Israel Festival and the Upper Galilee Music Days; local and international competitions; studio-produced programs, news bulletins (7 a day) and traffic reports (in the morning hours).

The “Voice of Music” produces a weekly chamber concert – “Etnachta” – and the Young Artists’ Competition, holds auditions, makes studio recordings and supports local music groups. The network is a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (E.B.U.) – airs concerts received by satellite and sends back some of our best productions. The many aspects of “The Voice of Music” are handled by the editors and the producers of Kol Israel’s Music Section, aided by a skillful technical department and by professional presenters
